    New segment...
    Saturday, January 26, 2008

Okay, it's been a month, or close to a month since i newly opened Me-At-All. To celebrate the anniversary, I have decided to open a new section in this blog. You hear the music behind the blog? that song will be gone soon. I will be replacing it with a Recorded Online radio which will be voiced by me. Usually it will be done during the weekends because at that period of time, everyone in the house will be out and I can record peacefully. So It may start next week and I will be introducing songs.

The purpose of this is for me to practice my oral, becuase my national exam is this year and i want to be good. Secondly, it is kind of fun to do it. Recording an Online Radio will help me build my portfolio in case if I decide to be a radio DeeJay. So Right now I will leave you to listen to the remaining days of this blog song.

    Expensive

This week, during spot check, my form teacher caught me with long hair. Unlike other teachers, he did not mark me for that, but advised me to go cut my hair.

Today I had this wild idea, Why not go for a haircut? How wild is that? Just an hour ago, I was waiting for my guardian to return, so that i can ask for money for haircut. Waited so long that I had to resort to asking her nephew to lend me some.

So I walked around the market, looking at each salon, hairdresser, barber sited in the vicinity. I was wondering about which should I go too. I had not gone to a barbershop since 3 years ago, and I have heard of scary stories that as you grow older, the barber will cut your hair wildly, and the outcome is bad.

I had never been to a hairdresser before, and in movies and magazines, the price tags for a haircut in in hairdressers, will make a huge hole in your pocket. So I had my last choice of salon.

For years, i have been changing salons for haircuts, although there was one which i was a regular, i am confused, which salon should i go. My guardian once suggested me to go to a few salons, the ones she and her family was regulars too. Trust me, just as alike, they always switch salons. So I went to a few salons, well only one actually, and they were crowded. So I moved again, there was one salon which had no customers. I went in and asked if they cut men's hair.

When I go too Salons, i am very concerned about the quality of work, the price, and the duration of haircut. Well for this salon particularly, it was 1/3 of my criteria achieved. The quality of work was brilliant, in my opinion, becuase they were trained in some kind of hair and beauty school in switzerland. Professionals. The duration was super long. 1/2 hour to cut a male's hair, how long will it take to cut a female's hair? The final criteria shocked me. The price, it was $20 for a man's haircut!!!!

That is double the price compared to the last salon i went to, triple the price that i used to get a haircut from a barber, hundred times the price of haircut i can get in Indonesia.... It was SUPER EXPENSIVE!!! when i left the salon, i regretted for going to that salon. I should have gone to the previous salon i last went to. Then I was worrying about my money, i only borrowed $10 from my guardian's nephew, although he gave extra $2, I ended up using my owen money to pay for my haircut!!!!

    $20 FOR A HAIRCUT!!! THAT"S INSANE!!!!

For all the guy's out there who wants to go to salon's for a haircut, here is me giving you advise. Look for a salon that shows price label, find the ones that offer cheap haircuts. Don't go to salon that has professional hairdressers, they cost more, quality may be good but is it worth it, eventually, you will have to cut the quality off again in a month. Anyway, anybody can give a good haircut if they at least know how to cut hair. Duration wise, better off going to the 10-minutes salons like EC, Speedy or some place. Quick cut, small price, okay quality. But if you want a better quality than okay, still better to go to barbers...

    My $20....

    Competition
    Thursday, January 17, 2008

Today was the day. For 2 weeks I had been preparing and today is the day I would be giving it all. Today was Competitions day.

Like mentioned previously, I joined 2 competitions, the bridge building competition and Electrifying connections. One was a failure and the other is brought a little joy back into my body.

We had been preparing for the bridge building competition for 2 whole weeks, spending the weekend to come up with the design, spending the other days to do time trial to build the bridge in 40 minutes. We were prepared to take 4 penalty mark by getting more sticks to build the bridge. We were very sure that the bridge can hold my bag which is about 4kg. We were confident that our bridge will be the winner. But today's competition proved our faiths to be wrong.

We were instructed to build the bridge in an hour, 60 minutes. The whole time we were panicking about the time constraint and even decided to removed some parts of the bridge to cut short of time.

We were instructed that we would be given a slip of coupons which and only which that we are only allowed to redeem materials. 20 satay sticks, 1 rolls of masking tape, 20 straws. and we can only take penalty for only this much material, and not more of any. OUR DESIGN HAS FORCED US TO ACCOUNT 4 PENALTY MARKS AND WE WEREN'T INFORMED OF IT ON THE PRE-COMPETITION INSTRUCTIONS!!!! WHAT IS THAT, AND NGEE ANN POLY ENGINEERING STUDENTS READING THIS, TELL THE ORGANISER TO BE MOST DETAILED WHEN DISTRIBUTING INSTRUCTIONS!!! MANY WERE MISLED BY YOUR IGNORANCE!

We have done up 2 prototypes which we have tested to be able to manage 4kg weight of my bag. When we arrived to the competition field, WE WEREN'T ALLOWED TO HAVE OUR PROTOTYPES WITH US TO COMPARE WHEN ON THE PRE-COMPETITION INSTRUCTIONS WE WERE INFORMED THAT WE CAN!!! Furthermore, because we lack of sticks, and ended up with a frail design of the bridge, the bridge can only with 3kg!!!

Because othe bridge cannot withstand the weight of at least 4kg, where in the pre-competition instructions stated 5kg!!!!!!!, we were disqualified. However, I wasn't jealous of the winning teams, I saw their bridge to be very strong and rigid, and apparently they have the knowledge to build a strong bridge, although i do not know where the knowledge came from. Congrats to all the winning teams, especially Serangoon Garden Secondary School, all the teams did a good job clinching the first, second and third place for all their bridges and i have to say all the bridges looked fantastic.

However, I am very very upset with the organisers of the competition, THEY WEREN'T CLEAR WITH THEIR INSTRUCTIONS AND MISLED OUR TEAM WITH ALL THEIR BULL***T. FURTHERMORE, HOW CAN 120 AND IF PENALTY USED, 140 STICKS BE ABLE TO BUILD 2 LEVELS BRIDGES OF DIMENSIONS 1.00M BY 0.40M BY 0.20M. AND ALSO TO MAKE SURE THAT IT IS STRONG.!!! GO REVIEW YOUR INSTRUCTIONS AND DO CORRECTIONS TO THEM BOTH ON-THE-SPOT AND PRE-COMPETITION INSTRUCTIONS. MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE THE SAME AND LEADS THE COMPETITORS ON THE RIGHT PATH! DON'T WORRY I WILL REINFORCE THESE WHEN I SEND A COMMENT TO THE POLYTECHNIC!

After speaking out my heart, I felt much much much better.Right now I have only reflections on the Electrifying Connections. I have to say the competition is very tough. Especially the competition is done by level of difficulty of forming a electrical circuit. Last year we made it through level 3, which took us half an hour or more to complete. This year is no different, we were once again stumped at level 3, but this time we did not manage to solve the puzzle. 45min 45seconds 45 milliseconds, the time we took to try to solve the puzzle until the time is up. We lost very terribly. However our surprise doesn't stop there. During prize presentation, we were satisfied and prepared to lay back and clap for other winning teams. But that wasn't what happened. When the announcer called table 31, I just clapped, then until my team members told me that it was our team number. He called out our names, badly pronounced, to justify that he was calling the right team. We had won the merit prize!!! Wow, we had done so badly and still we won a merit prize, that is simply unbelievable.

Let me rewind back to before prize presentation, it was refreshment time and exhibitions. We had a meal consisting of Fried Bee Hoon, Chicken Wing, and one other thing which i don't know what it's called. Then we were bored and decided to go into exhibitions, or was it before the refreshments. We entered the same room we visited but instead, there was a live demostration going on there. I asked my friends to company me to the opposite of the room to view other exhibitions we had not seen. I decided to cut across from the front where the guy was having demonstration on this pen that you can use to paint on the computer by swinging it in the air while pointing on a screen. He halted me and i looked up. "Hi, would you care to demonstrate how to use this?" I was like WHAT?! I don't want to do anything that you are doing, I just want to get across the room. "Well, I would love to but I am not from this school and so you can get someone else to do it. " There I said it and was prepared to move away. He pushed the pen to my body andspoke, "Don't be shy, just press this button and write on the air while pointing towards the screen." Well, I was forced to do it and it will rude to reject him, furthermore he is old. So I took the pen and twirled it a few times. I stopped and looked at him and continued to twirl a few more times. Then, I made up my mind to stop and move, pronto. "Well, here you go. Thank you very much, I had a lot of fun." Sarcastically obvious. However he nticed my sarcasm and said, " apparently you are not interested. Who else would like to give it a try." Snatched away the pen and gave way. At that moment I was very embarrassed, i turned to look at the audience and they all stared at me. That is simply the most embarrassing thing that had ever happened to me. That Fagging old man, how courteous of him, the least that he can do is to say thank you and shut up, no need to say all that i am not interested, obvious that i am not, and i was forced to do.

today was simply a distressing day and a lot of fury. I was angry with the organisers of th competition and the old man. NGEE ANN POLYTECHNIC IF ANYONE OF YOU READING THIS, GO TELL THAT TO THE PEOPLE I MENTIONED, PRONTO!

    Funny Yet Insulting
    Sunday, January 13, 2008

Today I went on blog hunting, going into people's blogs to read and discover. And guess what I discovered?

Soulja Boy has to be the dance creator of the year. Soulja boy dance has been circulating in societies around the world and the song that accompanies the dance is one of the top ten songs in many charts. I am in fact listening to that song, "Crank That".

I entered one of my juniors blog, I won't name, and I read about his daily life updates about his class and insults. But surprising, there was a short post with this video attached to it.

I find this video to be very funny and stupid, but not a bit I felt that this video is appropriate. Firstly, it is very insulting to the artiste who produced the song and the people who worked behind it. Secondly, the lyrics if you listen closely, although some are inaudible, words inserted are somewhat insulting, very hurtful descriptions. But what do people know these days, so long as it entertains, who cares what people thinks.

Now after watching the video, how do you respond to the video?

    Must-Do
    Saturday, January 12, 2008

Well, after posting my previous update, I started to browse and guess what I chanced upon?

Remember the movie STEP UP that was released theatrically in 2006? A movie about a guy and girl with 2 completely different family background and 2 different dance styles who fell in love. The guy, a hip hop guy was sent to do corrective work order in an Arts School after wrecking the school's art museum with his friends, whom he protected and sacrificed himself after his friend was caught. Studying in the arts school, a girl who was pursuing a scholarship had a problem when her dancing partner had injured himself, she needed to find substitute, but who knows and able to dance like her partner. During the auditions, the guy volunteered to be her dancing partner. And that is when their relationship began. Jealousy, anger, death, and a whole lot of dance.

After reading my movie summary above, i don't think you get what I mean. Well, basically what I am trying to tell you, STEP UP was my favourite movie of 2006 although i watched the VCD only in 2007. And what I recently found out STEP UP is releasing a sequel to this movie. STEP UP 2 THE STREETS. Story of the guy's sister going to an Arts School and joined a guy and his gang to take part in a street dance competition. Well, that's what I get from its trailer. I don't want to speak further and spoil the whole story plot. Let me just show you the trailer and the poster.

    Busy

This week has been very hectic. Firstly, homework. Well, actually it wasn't that much, but still it is a hassle to do them and guess what? Some of them I had not done. Moreover, due to accumulation since last year's, I will have to work very hard tomorrow to complete this week's homework and last year's homework.

Secondly, I and some other guys teamed up to join 2 different competitions organised by Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Build-A-Bridge and Electrifying Connections. This is our first year participating in the former, and as such we had problems in understanding the requirements needed to comply with for the competition. However, today we managed to come up with the design of the bridge and made a prototype of the design. All these would be the work of Kejia, one of the guys. He spend the whole of last night to come up with the design, calculations and even researching with his seniors. So we have done the prototype and proceeded to try out the withstand strength of the bridge. To our amazement, the bridge is able to pull at least 5 kg force by the power of hand. However, the structure of the bridge toppled, though it did not break but looks dangerously disfigured. Thankfully it was only the first prototype, so there is nothing to worry. We still have 5 more days to redo the prototype and to time run ourselves to build the bridge in 40 minutes. Also we have to reinforce the structures further to make sure that every joint in the bridge are well connected.

Where as for the electrifying connections, we have participated in the competition before last year and this year we are trying our luck once again to reach for the highest level of the competition and win, hopefully.

Furthermore, next week is the third week of school and that means more studying, so i will be expecting more homework piling up. So hope that you can cope your busy life.

    First day
    Monday, January 7, 2008

Today was the first day of the second week of school. It is the beginning of proper studying. Connection problems with friends have been resolved slightly, I have finally succeeded in getting across my opinion and speak to a few of my friends.

Also, today was a little hectic, as said studying has already started which means homework will be piling up soon. And today we had a meeting with our new principal as she provided us with a year plan for Sec 4 year. And also she had a forum with us and asked if there is any suggestions to help us get through our final year. There was this group of crazy girls who suggested Prom Night and the boys were jeering over them. The principal promised a prom night if the whole level behaves, well personally i don't think that is going to work, I mean guys do not have the slightest clue as to what to do during prom night, it is just an event when girls go fancy dressing. As the thought of prom dress keep rising to the surface of mind, I suddenly had a crazy thought about HOMECOMING??? I don't know, I think homecoming is a better event to organise than prom.

Well, I was about to suggest Saturday Lessons. Because I think 5 day a week is not enough for the teachers to teach the syllabus. Furthermore with an extra day, the teachers can go through more lessons with the students and even do more work. Anyway, Saturdays have not been a busy day for the students, they usually spend these days hanging out with friends, playing computer or slack off at home. This will at least help the students to concentrate more in their school work, after all this is the most important year for us.

Anyway, that is in my opinion. What about yours?!

    Week Reflection
    Sunday, January 6, 2008

This week has been really weird for me. Aside from the fact that school started this week, I have had a really hard time to blend back to this environment.

For about one and half month, I had been away from Singapore, away from school, away from friends. During this period of time, I rarely spoke English, hardly know what is the in-thing currently, never spoke to any of my English-speaking friends. Furthermore, I watched a lot of American shows on tv, a lot of local language shows. I just... it's just hard to switch back to Singlish, especially in school if I start to speak in an American accent which I caught on from the shows i watch, many people will give me the puzzled looks. Singlish is really a barrier that I just cannot break force. I want to connect with the people around me, but I cannot handle this language that they are so accustomed to.

Last year, I had had conflicts with my friends. Probably, many of them have a hatred for me by now. Once I stepped into class on the first day, not only was speaking to them in Singlish hard for me, speaking to them is a major problem that I just cannot fix. Usually when I had conflicts with people, I would not speak to them or anyone whom has affiliations with them. I believe that when I speak or even take notice of them, it would seem to them that I had broken my fences, and that I had lost the battle, that I am weak, that I just cannot seem to be able to live without them. I am just not that way. I do not wish to reconcile my relationships, or even think about them. I am not a person who leaves history to be history. I will ensure that history will remain as it is until the future.

Since, my connections with these people have been destroyed, and I do not wish to give in. I have only the PRC scholars whose realtionship with me was merely classmates. I want to be with them and be friends mostly because of several reasons. Firstly, I understand that they speak chinese well and are not the type of people who teases people's mistake like many of my "friends" are, so I was hoping that I can relate to them in Chinese and that they would correct my when I am wrong. Furthermore, they always try their best to translate to me whatever they were saying when I am confused. Secondly, my parents hoped that I can learn from them, their study habits because many of them have achieved great results after first year in Singapore. My parents wished that I could be as hardworking as them. So as a first step into doing this is to get closer to them. Slowly, maybe I will change for the better and eventually do great in my studies.

Well, I have had a hard time on the first week of school. Hopefully you have not.

    New Year Resolutions
    Saturday, January 5, 2008

A brand new year usually starts with people making a promise or maybe a better word be a thought to do something or maintain a certain habit or character. New year resolutions most of the time are not carried out fully or simply not cared about after new year. However, for some, they kept to their words and really complete their mission to change. So right now, I will list down my TOP 5 new year resolutions that i have thought of.

    TOP 5 New Year Resolutions.

    1. Last year, I have been very lazy and worst of all spent too much time idling. This year being the most important year of my 4-year course of Secondary education, I will do my best to change my habit, be more hardworking, spent less time on the computer, be more attentive in class and do my homework.

    2. Many people have noticed that since I was so lazy, i have planted a belly and it is developing very well. That is not a good sign especially for people at a young age. So, I will want to be more active, do some sports if possible maybe do simple workouts at home to keep the belly as small as possible.

    3. Adults who recognized me informed that i looked skinnier than previously they met me. So this may be a contradiction to the previous post, but I will put on at least 4 kg this year.

    4. Last year, I have had many conflicts with friends, this year I intend not to resolve these matters, furthermore being the last year of school, i do not wish to be in close contact with many people from my school, or else i would have to spend more time catching up with their life in the future.

    5. Finally, this is my greatest want, but possibly not be able to do at all. I have always fantasised doing whatever that I see, like Acting and on the bed i would repeat dialogues that i remembered from the shows, part time jobs, taking over people's leadership roles and rule the world. Maybe i should start small by being myself and break away from fantasies and purchase my ticket into the reality world.
