    Final Stride To Freedom
    Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Okay, today is the final paper of week 3, in a nutshell, I am very happy with my effort this week. I felt that all my effort the whole year trying to improve in SS and chinese will really show this time around.

Monday was SS, and I have to say that it was both easy and hard. SBQ i have to say is fairly difficult because although the questions were direct, however the sources are hard to interpret. There were points that were hard to comprehend and it's hard to link the evidence to the question. Well, that's in my perspective. I was really happy with my SEQ. So the three topics that came out are Governance, the cliche Sri Lanka and Northern Ireland and Iran-Iraq war. So obviously there weren't Globalisation and Venice, the top two topics that many would be spotting, so all those who did not prepare well will have a hard time. I have been studying governance all my secondary life and I am glad that it appear as one of the questions. and they werent hard to understand at all. The questions were predictable although I would have expected more of Healthcare and Managing Population. So the 2 main concerns that were asked as the Methods of traffic control and Principles of Governance. Thank goodness i have had enough practice to be able to understand the familiar questions. However, I was stumped when they asked which of the principles of governance is the most important. Obviously all of them are equally important, however all these while I have been thought to only choose one, so I was in a dilemma. But I have to say all my other points were very satisfactory. I managed to use statistics and examples in my essays and I managed to finish it. I was so glad that I prepared well for governance which many students weren't going to do. Many chose Sri Lanka and Northern Ireland and from the buzz, many felt that it was rather hard, so yeah I thank my lucky stars for governance.

So today is my second attempt to do chinese. And I must say I am relieved that I was able to understand the questions and that I wrote faster than before. For Paper 1, I followed what my teacher suggested me to do and I have to really thank him for telling me that. I did "informal letter" and "the suggestive question". Well, I decided to them first of all because I think I can find the points much easier and that I do not want to screw things up again like mid year by choosing the popular questions. For paper 2, I was really happy that it was much much much simpler and easier to understand than mid year, again. Although I am quite shaky with the close-passage, I am happy with the open-ended comprehension. I think I could find the points quite fast and accurately, and I risk my time by writing as much as I could. It was really surprising because I could finish the paper despite wasting my time having to go to the washroom halfway. So overall, I am satisfied and confident that this examination will make me proud, at least an A2 is enough.

Chinese marks the end of written examinations, while others still have to worry about Literature and Geography. Now I am spared 5 days to prepare for the MCQ tests. And I must really work hard for the physics because I need it bad to pull up my results for that subject.

Okay news Update, OBAMA won. Congratulations and hope that he can keep to his words and bring the much needed change soon.

I just found out that disney is going to release the Sing-Along Version of HSM3. It will be so weird when I watch the movie and all of a sudden someone sitting next to me sing aloud to synchronise his voice to Troy's. Anyway, I really want to watch HSM3, the sing along will be a plus.

    XOXO

    UPDATE
    Sunday, November 2, 2008

Okay, I forgot to update yesterday so here it goes.

So this week, I had to sit for Physics, Maths and Biology paper. I have to say that week 2 papers were generally harder than week 1's. In spite of my fervent revision for the papers, i have to say i was utterly disappointed with my performance this week.

So physics was the first of the series of papers this week. I was expecting the question to be rather doable with most similar to those that I have done. I tried my very best to revise all the chapters focusing most on those that I dont seem to do well during the prelims. Pressure, moments, energy and forces, those were the ones that i focused most. However, the paper surprised me. All those topics that my teachers considered optional appeared as major questions in the paper. and most of those that I focused on didnt come out, like pressure, moments, the major parts of electricity (the minor ones appeared like diode, electricity transmission). I was totally stumped, most of the time i was cracking my head real hard to recall what my teacher had said. I tried my best to explain it as careful as i could, trying my best to include all the necessary keywords. Maybe because of that, I could not complete the paper by 8 marks. I was devastated, I didnt manage to read the question myself and i didnt know that the invigilator started collecting from 0031. So it's like by the time i dropped my pencil, they are already there to take the paper away from me. I know that I am not going to excel in this paper, but I am hoping that I had done the SPA well and paper 1 will be much simpler than this.

Next paper to terrify the students, E Maths paper 2. After we have done paper 1, we thought that paper 2 would not be as hard as evident by A maths paper 2. But i think that it's harder than paper 1. I did not have time to check my answers, but I tried my very best to minimise the careless mistakes which I did for A Maths paper 1. Surprisingly, this time, the paper did not screw the students with all the significant figures confusion. Well, in spite of all these, I have to say that I have done my best with this paper.

Finally, the last paper of the week, biology. The subject that everyone dreaded most. In biology, there are 3 ways we can classify the chapters, Animals, Plants and Basics of heredity (mitosis, meiosis, DNA, fertilisation). Everyone would have been able to remember all the necessary requirements for Animals and Plants, what everybody else was worried most is the last few chapters with the most information. We prayed hard that the qeustions would not be as difficult. Our prayers had been answered, even with a greater privilege. None came out from those chapters. No DNA, no meiosis, no mitosis, no protein making. aside from that, the questions were pretty much manageable. There were a lot of one word/line answers and definitely a lot of drawing and Labelling. Overall, i have to say that the subject that we fear most wasnt much to fear of. Instead, physics was a definite killer.

Okay, now that week 2 is over, 2 more weeks left to freedom. Next week, Social Studies and Chinese, again. Well, I think I am prepared with Social studies. Now I only have to focus on details like evidence. For chinese, I am rather unbalanced. I think I know my stuff, but I dont know if my stuff is enough to get me distinctions. Anyway, that dictionary which killed me in the prelims had been banished from my sight. I only have to prepare for how i deliver my sentences properly.

Now that's over, I was rather sad that O level is going to be over soon. All the 4 years that I have been preparing for the exams is over is in 2 weeks time. There is probably nothing else that I can do during the well deserved break because there'll be no homework. I have to think of something productive to do during this break and hopefully I can improve on my skills. I'll Update you next week, probably wednesday immediately after Chinese.
